Hat & Cap Guide

A hat and cap guide is an AI tool that measures your face shape from a photo, then matches that shape to the crown heights and brim widths that balance it, before handing you named styles to shop for.

Every hat you own is built from the same two dials, just turned to different settings. Upload a photo and this tool tells you where those dials should sit for your face — no guessing in a mirror under a shop's overhead lighting.

2 Your Hat Guide

Your face shape and the hats that suit it will appear here.

How a Hat Changes a Face

A hat sits directly above your face and adds a shape the rest of your outfit doesn't touch, which is exactly why crown height and brim width move how your proportions read more than almost anything else you put on.

Crown height lengthens

A tall crown adds vertical to a round or square face.

Brim width widens

A wide brim broadens the top of the face and shortens a long one.

Soft shapes soften

Unstructured crowns take the edge off an angular jaw.

Convention, not AI

The measurement runs automatically; the styling advice behind it was written by people, not generated on the fly.

No other accessory adds a completely new shape above your head, which is why a hat can shift how a face reads faster than a haircut or a pair of glasses ever could. Two variables carry the entire effect: crown height, which stretches a face vertically, and brim width, which spreads it out horizontally. Every named style on this page is just those two settings dialed differently.

The AI's job stops at measuring your proportions. From there, the pairing between your shape and a given crown-and-brim combination follows established styling convention rather than a model's own judgment call.

Every Face Shape, Every Hat

A scan returns one face shape and its matches — one slice of the picture. Lined up against the other six, the crown-height and brim-width logic behind it is easy to verify instead of just trusting the tool's word.

Run your photo through the tool and you get your own row in that same table, with the reasoning attached rather than a bare style name.

Choosing in the Shop

Fit decides more of how a hat looks than shape ever will — get the size wrong and no amount of face-shape logic saves the outcome.

Square to the camera

Turning your head even slightly changes the proportions the AI measures.

Hair off your face

The jaw and temple points need a clear line of sight to be read accurately.

Even lighting

A shadow falling across the jaw is the single most common reason a shape gets misread.

A starting point

Nothing here overrides your own taste — treat the result as a baseline, not a rule.

Crown and Brim Are the Only Two Variables

Strip the names away — fedora, trilby, bucket, newsboy — and every hat reduces to a crown of some height sitting on a brim of some width. Nothing else on this page is a third variable; it's those two, applied differently to different faces.

A round face gains from crown height and loses from a wide flat brim. A long face needs the opposite pairing. Once a hat stops being a name and starts being two numbers, comparing styles gets a lot easier.

The Thing Face Shape Cannot Fix

Face shape has nothing to say about fit, and a hat that doesn't fit will look off regardless of what the shape logic recommends. Too tight leaves a mark on your forehead and rides high on your head; too loose slides down toward your ears within an hour of wearing it. Measure your head's circumference once and that number solves the sizing question permanently.

Scale relative to your body matters just as much. Put a very wide brim on a small frame and it reads as costume rather than styling, no matter how well it matches the face shape underneath it.

About This Tool

The face-shape reading behind this guide didn't come from a licensed API — Ahsan Fayyaz trained the model in-house on real faces and benchmarked it against other face-analysis tools. It's the same measurement engine behind the site's hairstyle recommender and other style tools. Your photo is processed by that model and deleted from the server right after your result generates; what you see afterward lives only in your browser's cache and disappears the moment you refresh. This guide is for style and entertainment purposes only — it is not medical, clinical, or professional advice, and it doesn't replace a fitting with an actual stylist or milliner.

Frequently Asked Questions

It maps 68 points across your face, measures the proportions between them, and matches your shape to crown heights and brim widths that balance it, then names three hat styles built to that spec.
Yes — two free scans a day, no account required.
Named styles and general shape categories (crown height, brim width, structure), not specific brands or products. You take the shape guidance to whatever shop or site you buy from.
No. The in-house model processes it, deletes it from the server once your result is ready, and everything you see afterward sits only in your browser's cache — refresh the page and it's gone on both ends.
Because a turned head compresses one side of the frame, which throws off the width and height readings the whole recommendation is built on. A straight-on shot keeps the measurement honest.
Both start from the same 68-point face-shape reading, but this page applies that reading to crown height and brim width instead of cut and length. If you want both answers, running your photo through the hairstyle recommender uses the identical measurement with a different set of recommendations attached.
Not directly — the model reads your underlying face shape, not your current hair. It does ask that hair be pushed back off your forehead and temples for the scan itself, though, since covered landmarks can't be measured.
One "correct" hat would ignore that crown height and brim width can each be solved several ways for the same face. Three named options give you real choices to try on rather than a single verdict.
Of course. The guidance reflects a styling convention, not a rule — personal taste, context, and what feels right on your head outrank anything a shape chart says.
Only face shape. Head circumference is a separate measurement the tool doesn't take — you'll still need to check that against a hat's actual size chart before buying.
Glasses usually don't interfere much since the key points sit around the jaw, temples, and hairline. A mask or anything covering the lower face will — the model needs those points visible to measure accurately.
No. Two free scans a day work without one; creating a free account raises that daily limit if two isn't enough.
Yes, as a styled image sized for Story or Square posting — no screenshot needed.
Potentially, since jaw-line visibility affects a few of the measured points. A full beard that obscures the jaw can shift the reading slightly compared to a clean shave, though the effect is usually smaller than a bad camera angle would cause.
Run the second free scan with a different photo — small changes in angle, lighting, or expression are sometimes enough to bring back a different set.
Written by people. The AI's role stops at measuring your face shape; the pairing between that shape and a given crown-and-brim recommendation comes from established styling convention, not a generated opinion.
Yes — the same crown-height and brim-width logic applies whether the result points you toward a structured hat or a soft cap silhouette. The measurement doesn't change based on the category of headwear.
A shadow along the jawline is the single most common cause of a misread face shape, since it can make a jaw look narrower or squarer than it is. Even, front-facing lighting avoids that almost entirely.
Yes — the underlying landmark measurement doesn't vary by gender, and every face shape the model recognizes gets its own crown-and-brim pairing. Explore the rest of the site's style tools if you want the same measurement applied to other categories.
